Despite the revolutionary benefits, robotic process automation lacks certain features. Hence, organizations across the world are largely deploying robotic process automation, which is why its market size is expected to hit 3.11 billion dollars by 2025. Low to no manual errors have led to increased productivity, ultimately profiting the industries in business and revenue growth. One such automation tool that is widely used today is robotic process automation.ĭesigned to take up low-quality jobs, robotic process automation has helped organizations reduce human errors significantly. The ultimate aim - to have increased efficiency, enhanced accuracy, improved customer satisfaction and optimized workflows - has engaged organizations to invest in automation and operating tools. This level of sophistication and ease is only possible because of industries becoming digitized. We see breakthroughs happening in our lives with technological applications doing the heavy lifting most of the time. The fast-paced technology-driven world has made our lives extremely convenient now. We have evolved from room-sized mainframes to laptops, from using stick shifts to autonomous vehicles, from personal assistants to virtual assistants, and to so much more in just the blink of an eye. ![]() ![]() ![]() You can rearrange the settings buttons in setting, and very few apps let you change up what it can do. Very Limited Versatility – Big surprise, Apple really limits how they want you to use the Touch Bar.It’s particularly galling to see a paste widget as the first Touch Bar option. But even where support does exist, most only offer graphical replacements for keyboard shortcuts. Microsoft Office is actually one of the better implemented. As expected Apple apps are fairly well sorted. Big names like Slack, Tweetbot, and Firefox are dead to the interface. Support is Laughably Incomplete – Of the apps I use every day, about half greet me with a blank Touch Bar.Not having Google Docs or WordPress specific Touch Bar functionality feels so limiting. The Touch Bar is numb to web apps – While most major browsers have some basic Touch Bar functionality, web apps have no hooks into it.But there are substantial issues with this implementation: I think the idea of having application specific buttons still has a lot of potential. But to be honest, I used it docked with a monitor and external keyboard 95% of the time. If I used it on the road more, I might take issue with the battery life or keyboard. I have a MacBook Pro with Touch Bar (even the name is bad) for work. The MBP may be the most popular computer Apple sells right now (although I don’t even know if that’s true or to what degree), but how can you expect developers to invest time and effort into adding interface features a large number of users have no access to? It’s baffling. Low-end MBPs, MacBooks, MacBook Airs, iMacs and Mac Pros have no access to the interface, not even via an accessory. Apple limits the Touch Bar to a subset of a single line of computers, the MacBook Pro. Sure they iterated on it, but outside of the Shuffle, the traditional iPod’s all shared that interaction design. Imagine if they included the scroll wheel on only one generation of iPod. It’s no wonder it doesn’t work all that well.Īpple further exacerbated this by making it an extremely limited interface. This is by definition a compromise on the idea of touch interaction. The Surface tablets have adjustable hinges and detachable keyboards to make the touch experience more native. Microsoft’s response to this was to create a line of devices that were “lapable” tablets. Personally I think Apple just doesn’t want fingerprints smudging up their pretty displays. With the introduction of the redesigned MacBook Air in 2010, Steve Jobs said a laptop touch screen is “ergonomically terrible.” This may be a bit of exaggeration, but it’s not ideal on a typical laptop some of the time. I am of course speaking of the Touch Bar.Įven as touch screens have become fairly standard in the Windows world, Apple has purposely resisted the tide for at least the past eight years. But it seems fair to say their attempt at a more reasonable touch interface for laptops hasn’t gone well. The jury is still out if the “digital crown” will carry a similar impact on wearables. When Apple makes interface decisions, there’s a track record of success. Most famously, their choices around multitouch gestures for iOS have come to define touchscreen interactions for more than a decade. They were pretty early on in being bullish on mice for navigating GUIs (albeit with a steadfast hatred of multiple buttons) and they came up with a unique paradigm to make the iPod a one-handed device. Historically, Apple is pretty good about choosing interfaces for their devices. They set the drop-list selection to 16:9 and ‘hey presto’ the picture looks right. So for a 16:9 picture stored in a texture you can send it to a friend and, provided they are using Phoenix, tell them in IM “you’ll need to view that at 16:9”. Phoenix adds a useful little drop-list at the bottom of a texture view to let you tell it what Aspect Ratio it should be. With most Viewers you have to stretch the texture till it looks right. For me this is the killer feature as it is just so useful for enabling me to shop in a large store the way I want to.Īs I’ve blogged about before, Second Life stores pictures (textures) in squares, or rectangles made of squares, and unless the Aspect Ratio exactly matches that of the texture it’s going to be distorted. It does this because llMoveToTarget is a script command used to move things around rather than a teleport as such, so isn’t restricted by the Landing Point rules. However, there is an option in Phoenix when using the LSL Client Bridge to use llMoveToTarget for double-click TPs and this zips you straight to where you double-click even if this sim has a Landing Point. Or, worse, you get zapped back to the Landing Point. Most Third Party Viewers allow you to double-click teleport, but often you fall foul of the Landing Point and get an unhelpful message saying you are unable to TP closer than where you are. In fact it is really, really annoying when you want to cam around a large shop (for example) and then TP to where your camera view is to get closer to a vendor board, or the like. But when you are already in a sim, is it still necessary? I don’t think so. I can see the value of it, as it means people are forced to rez near a rules giver, or a prim notice, or a shop display, or the starting point on a tour, or whatever. Sim Owners have long been able to set a Landing Point to dictate where you land when entering their sim. Intra-sim teleports even when there is a Landing Pointīy this I mean teleports that take place within a sim, rather than when teleporting into a sim from another sim. I actually really like this as it is very compact and can be up all the time, unlike the Phoenix one which takes up too much screen space to be up all the time. The client-side radar / Avatar List is very compact and hung off the bottom of the Mini-Map. This is just so useful for those busy groups where people just can’t STFU in group chat but you still want to receive group notices. You can suppress Group Chat for individual groups. My friend Mariana actually ported this to Phoenix and submitted it as a patch and it was rejected as the person who rejected it didn’t see it as being useful, which was a shame as I think it is. When new IMs come in, the title bar of the ‘communicate’ menu updates to say how many are unread. When viewing your profile, groups that you have hidden from public view are shown greyed out, giving you an idea of how your profile will appear to others. It’s by no means an extensive or all-inclusive list. This is a roundup of what I consider to be genuinely useful features. As an aside, I think it’s pretty clear that the developers at Linden Lab who developed Viewer 2.x don’t, but that’s not the subject of this entry. What I like the most about Third Party Viewers such as Imprudence and Phoenix is that they are developed by people who actually use Second Life and so have features that, whilst they may not grab the headlines, are genuinely useful. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() I guess I'd like to hear-and Katie, this might be a question for you-but before you guys settled into this, it sounds like you really.
